Standardized Testing: A Disservice To The United States Education System

Do you know how standardized testing is affecting student education in the United States? The United States continually uses standardized testing to assess students across the nation. By creating laws, such as the No Child Left Behind Act, standardized tests are mandatory in all schools. However by creating these mandated assessments, it has allows Standardized Testing to become a multi-million dollar industry and greatly impact student education across the nation.

Did you know that 1 in 5 children in America live in poverty? With impoverished school districts becoming a majority rather than a minority, the need for high quality teachers in these classrooms is greater than ever before. My advocacy project, “How Penn State Students Can Combat Poverty in the Classrooms,” is a whiteboard animation which expresses the need for teachers in poverty stricken areas, and summons Penn State education majors to make a difference by taking part in urban and rural Maymester opportunities.

It also discusses the effect of student debt on the economy, and how we can look at other school systems to alter our tuition policies.
